Near Ven. Thubten Wangchen
Come. Thubten Wangchen is a monk member of the Tibetan parliament in exile and internationally known defender of human rights of Tibetans. He was born in Tibet in 1954; at five he crossed the Himalayas fleeing the Chinese invasion. He survived by begging on the streets of Kathmandu in Nepal. He entered a school for Tibetan refugees in Dalhousie, India, where he studied his own language, culture, history, art and Buddhist philosophy, as well as English and Hindi.
At 16 he entered the Namgyal monastery to deepen the study of Buddhist philosophy. Since 1981, he has resided in Spain where, after an intense cultural exchange with the West and at the suggestion and advice of S.S. the Dalai Lama, created the House of Tibet in Barcelona with the aim of promoting the dissemination and defense of Tibetan culture, human rights, cooperation and solidarity with the Tibetan people in exile, especially through the education program and health.
